Ikebana Wedding Centerpieces & Table Decorations

Couture floral designer Karen Hsu of Grandiflora, professionally trained in the art of ikebana, says the philosophy of her company, Grandiflora, is a signature style that combines timeless design with a modern sensibility.

Which makes sense even though the clean, modern, lines of ikebana floral arrangements stand in sharp contrast to the fact that the traditional art of Japanese floral arranging is more then 600 hundred years old.

It's kind of an oxymoron: Timeless and modern at the same time. Ikebana is timeless but in a classic way. It isn't a "retro" style that fell out of fashion then had a resurgence in popularity. Ikebana has been a steadfast, world renowned, Japanese art form as ubiquitous as the origami crane.

Though she also offers traditional European style bouquets and centerpieces comprised of a cluster of flowers in a vase or container, with Ikebana Karen is able to offer something special to her avant-garde brides and grooms who want a sculptural aesthetic that isn't overstated. Ikebana creates an elegant, quiet, and dramatic effect that wholly subscribes to the theory that less, is sometimes more.

Ikebana Centerpiece

Due to the random nature of the plants and branches often used in ikebana, many arrangements are truly one-of-a-kind as the twists, arc or spiral effect can be, and often is, unique to one branch alone.
