Shrimp Cocktail Cake Topper

Well how funny is this? For my groom one of the most important aspects of the entire wedding was having shrimp cocktail at the wedding. I decided the most appropriate time to serve it would be during the "cocktail" hour.
I hadn't decided on our cake decor when my friend Armando called me up to tell me he'd just watched an episode of Ace of Cakes and that they made a shrimp cake, and that I should make a shrimp cake topper.
As soon as he said it I saw the picture in my mind of how to make one. The next step was finding shrimp colored beads. Not as easy as you might think. It took a trip up to San Francisco to General Bead, and to my favorite South Bay bead shops, Beads and Things and to 3 Beads and a Button to find just the right seed beads to create my shrimp.
I used Swarovski Austrian crystal to create the clear crystal dish and filled it with red crystals to mimic the cocktail sauce.
And yes those are iPod Video Nanos on the cake. You can read about them by CLICKING HERE.
The cake was a hit! The shrimp were unexpected and gave everyone a good laugh.
